in a beautiful natural setting overlooking the Mississippi River, the

Attractions
The Mississippi and
Black Rivers and Lake Onalaska offer countless opportunities for water
sports and activities, including sailing, boating, swimming and canoeing
as well as year round fishing. Large mouth bass, northern pike, crappie,
bluegills, bullheads and walleye are plentiful. For bikers and
hikers Onalaska features two great recreational trails, the La
Crosse River Trail with a five mile prairie preserve and a river marsh and
the Great River Trail, with trails right along the Mississippi River.
Trail users have over 105 continuous miles of surfaced trails to enjoy the
beautiful birds, animals, flowers and plant life and prairie vegetation. Onalaska
is a winter paradise for downhill skiing, cross-country skiing,
snowmobiling and ice fishing. In Onalaska you can also visit the Upper Mississippi River National
Wildlife and Fish Refuge, one of the country's largest and most visited
refuges. It features more than 265 species of birds, 57 species of
mammals, 35 species of reptiles and amphibians and over 100 species of
fish and encompasses nearly 200,00 acres. Special attractions in the Onalaska
area are the canoe trails and swan, eagle, duck and geese
watching.
