Trempealeau
County
It's Hard to Spell,
But Vacations Well! Scenic
Trempealeau County has
so many things to see and do -- it's a great place to live or to visit! From historic communities,
the mighty Mississippi, majestic bluffs and rolling hills, to all the
outdoor recreational opportunities, it's no wonder that Trempealeau County
in southwestern Wisconsin has become a popular vacation destination.
Outdoor Activities Trempealeau
County's eight lakes along with the Mississippi
River and numerous rivers and streams provide water recreation to suit
everyone's interests. You can boat, water ski, canoe, swim, rent a
houseboat or fish for rainbow and brook trout which are abundant in the
cold water streams and rivers or fish for panfish and walleye in the
Mississippi. Camping in the state parks or on a sandbar in the
Mississippi is a popular attraction, as are golfing, tennis, sightseeing,
walking and picnicking! Biking,
hiking, cross country skiing, snowmobiling and exploring are fun
activities along the scenic Great River Road, which also travels through
the Trempealeau National Wild Like Refuge. The Trempealeau National Wild
Life Refuge provides a unique opportunity to view an unusual
abundance and variety of plants and animals. With
about thirty percent of the county's land area covered by forests, these
woodland habitats support a wide range of wildlife including whitetail
deer, black bears, fox, coyotes, wild turkey, grouse, pheasants, raptors
and songbirds. The country's whitetail deer ranges extends more than
fifty-five percent of the county (over 410 square miles), much of
which is accessible for public hunting. In the Fall, thousands of
migrating waterfowl draw hunters to this area. Trempealeau
County's scenic drives, back roads, and trails provide easy access to
spectacular views of the countryside, mountainous bluffs, waterways,
wildlife, historic communities and the peaceful Amish countryside. Area
