A Little City with a Big Velkommen
Located in the rolling
hills of the north-central part of Vernon County in western Wisconsin, Westby is
a vibrant community with lots of activities and outdoor
recreational opportunities, surrounded by beautiful scenery and historical attractions. Settled
by Norwegian immigrants in 1843, Westby today proudly celebrates
its heritage with many festivals and events throughout the year.

In any time of the year
you'll find lots to do for the whole family in Westby. The area
offers over 200 miles of terrific trout streams as well as other
recreational activities, including hiking, biking, golfing, canoeing,
kayaking, horseback riding, camping, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing,
hunting and ice fishing. Popular attractions include the Wild Cat Mountain
State Park with spectacular scenery, camping, horseback riding and cross
country skiing and the Jersey Valley, with its beautiful lake,
picnic area and canoeing and kayaking. At the Kickapoo Valley Reserve you
can enjoy thousands of acres of watershed property including mountain
biking, birding and fishing, canoeing and much more. The Black Hawk Trail
and Park features great hiking trails and family fun!
Westby is known
for the Snowflake Annual Ski Jumping Tournament held each February
featuring a two-day 114 meter world class competition.
Historic and Local
Sites
Explore the beautiful
and varied sites of Westby. The Thorsen House is a gracious
Victorian home that today houses the Westby Area Historical Society and
hosts many local events. The Norskedalen and Skumsrud Heritage Farm
preserves the Norwegian heritage with a pioneer homestead, display,
arboretum and nature center. Special events and celebrations
are held here throughout the year
Area tours are available to help
you enjoy the beautiful rolling hills and countryside of Westby.
Leisure tours by bike or car will wind you through the scenic backroads of
the coulee region and through the hills and valleys. Tours from Westby
will take you to visit the area's Amish settlement, the largest in
Wisconsin. See their crafts, gift stores, and more. You can also see
the round barns, the largest number in the world, in an independent or
escorted tour.
Westby
celebrates its Norwegian heritage annually with a three-day Syttende Mai celebration
every May. This popular event includes a troll hunt, quilt auctions, arts
and crafts, music and entertainment, car show, parades, costumes, ethnic
food and craft demonstrations, and lots of Norwegian hospitality.

If you like shopping, Westby
is the place to visit. There are antique, farm and household auctions
with great bargains and unusual items. Westby's fine antique shops
and unique specialty and craft stores are open seven days a week. After
