Iron County
Attractions
The "Real
Northwoods" of natural beauty and adventure is getting difficult
to find these days! Here in Iron County there is a variety of
natural surroundings that other areas can only envy. Pristine
waterfalls cascade through colorful forests. The rugged Penokee
Range towers over historic mining communities. Its breathtaking
skyline and vistas offer unlimited opportunities for adventure.
Blue gems of peaceful lakes, the wild shores of the Turtle-Flambeau
and Gile Flowages, are home to loons, bald eagles and satisfied
fishermen. Lake Superior, the World's Mightiest Freshwater Lake
laps the northern shores of Iron County.
Iron County's
rich history is "Rooted in Resources" -- showcased by
an extensive trail network. The trail systems incorporate many
of the historic transportation, mining and lumbering sites of
the Wisconsin Heritage Area. Snowmobile trails, mountain bike
trails, ski trails, ATV trails and auto trails allow you to experience
the wilderness, settlements and mystic beauty of Northern Wisconsin,
no matter what your mode of transportation might be.
One of the spectacular
highlights of this area are the Waterfalls of Iron County, as
perfectly natural now as when they were discovered. You'll find
some of the most spectacular waterfalls in Wisconsin here, both
in height and surrounding scenery. Most of Iron County's many
waterfalls are located off-the beaten path, unspoiled by crowds.
Iron County's
friendly people and communities welcome you to experience the
"Real Northwoods." Back to top
