Rusk
County Attractions
Located in Northwest
Wisconsin, Rusk County features scenic beauty and unlimited year-round
recreational activities. Once the home of a booming logging industry, small
communities grew and then died when the logging industry dwindled. Today Rusk
County is known for a great quality of life for residents and a great place to
vacation for visitors.
Rusk County offers
recreational opportunities for everyone. With more than 250 lakes and over 140
miles of rivers, streams and creeks in Rusk County, fishing enthusiasts, from newcomer to
professional, will enjoy all kinds of fishing. There is excellent fishing for
bass, panfish, walleye, musky, northern or bullheads and good trout
fishing in well-stocked streams. Take a boat ride or swim in Rusk County's
clean, clear lakes. Also, whitewater canoeing and kayaking provide an exciting
experience on the Flambeau River, while the Chippewa River offers a quieter ride
and beautiful scenery.
Hikers and bikers will enjoy the Blue Hills
Trails, including the
Perch Lake Nature Trail, the Ice-Age Trail and the hardwood trails. A forested
glaciated area and waterfalls are hidden in the woods and deer inhabit the area.
Hundreds of miles of snowmobile and cross country trails crisscross the county,
and an excellent ski hill offers the highest vertical run in the north. Public
hunting areas abound. Several golf courses in the county provide a challenge for
the golf enthusiast.
Many dining and lodging options are available in Rusk County.
From small cafes and bar and grills to lakefront supper clubs, there are lots of
eating choices. Campgrounds, lakefront cottages and resorts, and motels and
hotels can accommodate all your lodging needs.
With unlimited year-round recreation and beautiful scenery, it's clear to see
why Rusk County is "Everything Wisconsin Was Meant to Be!"
