when Janesville was established as the county seat on land owned by Henry
Janes, the city's first postmaster, and home to the Lincoln-Tallman
Restoration, the only private home in Wisconsin where President
Abraham Lincoln slept during a visit in 1859, Janesville is also
rich in historical heritage. It 's residents have shown great dedication
in the restoration of the community's early buildings and homes, and in
the development of a robust local economy, which includes General
Motors largest U.S. plant. With over 3 1/2 million feet of industrial
automation and modern robotics used in the production GM autos and trucks,
the GM
plant offers tours Monday thru Wednesday that are fun for the whole
family!
"Known as Wisconsin's Park
Place", Janesville features over 2,000 acres of parks
and nature areas along the Rock River and the area's many fine lakes.
A particularly popular park is Rotary
Gardens, with 15 acres of the gardens, beautiful
landscaped trails, trees, shrubs and sitting benches.
